We had an amazing visit from the National Parks & Wildlife Service Ireland that the children absolutely loved. The ladies shared so many fascinating facts, helped the children learn about different bird species, and even let them hear real bird calls. One of the highlights was seeing the taxidermy birds up close, which really sparked curiosity and excitement. The children had great fun and thoroughly enjoyed learning with such engaging and knowledgeable presenters. 🐦✨

Children really enjoyed the taxidermy birds.  They couldn’t believe how real they looked!

The presentation was amazing! The children haas fun guessing the names of the birds and listening to their calls.

The wingspan of an eagle that can be up to 2 and a half meters long. That doesn’t seem possible, but it is! Wow!

We learned that an Owl eats its meals whole, and it regurgitates the parts of their prey that they don’t need. Such as the fur and bones of a mouse. How interesting and a cool sight! 👀

BRING IT ON 💪

We have set up a fun competition in school to celebrate the Rugby Six Nations! Each class and the school staff all received a team to support and follow! The children have had great fun so far with keeping an eye on the matches, listening to the national anthems and showing fun competitiveness with the different teams.

Catholic Schools Week in Ireland is a special time to celebrate the ethos and values that underpin daily life in our primary schools. It highlights how faith, learning and care for others are woven through every aspect of school life, encouraging children to be kind, respectful and compassionate in their interactions with everyone. In our school, these values are reflected in our weekly Acts of Kindness, where pupils are encouraged to show care, empathy and generosity in practical ways. As an inclusive school, we warmly welcome children of all religions and backgrounds, celebrating diversity while fostering a strong sense of community, respect and belonging for all. As part of the celebrations this week, we welcomed all our grandparents to our school and held a mass in their honour.

As part of Catholic Schools Week, we were delighted to welcome grandparents into our school for a special Grandparents Day celebration. It was a joyful occasion, and the children were especially delighted to see their grandparents sharing in school life. The day highlighted the strong bond between generations and the important role grandparents play in our school community.

There is great excitement around the school as we begin our Active Schools programme. Active Schools Ireland promotes physical activity and wellbeing by encouraging children to be active for at least 60 minutes every day through fun, inclusive activities. The programme supports schools in creating a positive, active culture and working towards the Active School Flag. We look forward to getting moving together and enjoying all the benefits an active lifestyle brings.

Happy Christmas from Corrandrum NS!

The children spent weeks preparing for the Christmas play, showing great pride in their roles and growing confidence throughout. They learned their lines off by heart and worked extremely well with the props on stage. We are lucky to have a stage and curtains in the school, which truly enhances our school plays and gives the children a wonderful sense of drama. Their hard work truly paid off. Well done, children!

Christmas has arrived at Corrandrum National School!

Board Game Fun!

Our 5th and 6th class pupils created their own board games as part of the Microsoft Dream Space project. They put tremendous effort into planning, designing and building each game, and their creativity really shone through. The children had great fun playing the finished games and sharing them with the rest of the children in the school. A big thank-you to Mr. Flynn for organising this fantastic and inspiring activity!

Shoe Box Appeal

We were delighted to take part in the Shoe Box Charity Appeal this year. The generosity shown by our families has been truly heartwarming, with so many thoughtful boxes donated to support those who are less fortunate. Each gift will make a real difference, and we are incredibly grateful for the kindness and compassion in our school.

Halloween Dress Up!

Every year, the children look forward to our Halloween dress-up day with great excitement. They love arriving in their creative costumes, sharing laughs, and showing their outfits to their friends and teachers. It’s always a fun, festive day that brings plenty of joy and imagination to our school community.

🌼 Daffodils and Tulips 🌷

Mr. Flynn kindly brought in daffodil and tulip bulbs for the children to plant. He showed everyone how to prepare the soul, place the bulbs, and care for them as they grow. Each child had the opportunity to plant their own bulbs, making it a fun and hands-on learning experience. Now we wait with excitement to see the flowers blossom next spring,

We had a fantastic time celebrating Maths Week in our school. Everyone took on the fun challenge of learning a variety of card games. From 25 and Go Fish to Old Maid and Snap, there was something for everyone to enjoy. The games helped us build our maths skills while having plenty of laughs along the way.

We had the pleasure of having Bridie, a local card expert and grandparent, provide some really good help and advice to the children on improving their card playing skills. We also had a whole school event where 5th and 6th class helped the lower classes play and understand some new card games.

🏃🏃‍♀️Cross Country🏃‍♀️🏃

All the children who took part in the primary school cross country race ran an excellent race and showed great determination and team spirit. Every runner gave their best effort, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and support for one another throughout the event. We’re especially proud to announce that two of our pupils qualified for the finals! The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and are already looking forward to next year’s race!

Dog’s Trust Ireland visited our school to teach the children about caring for dogs and being kind to animals. The representative gave a fun and informative talk and even brought along a little stuffed dog, which everyone loved! It was a great visit that helped us learn more about how to keep dogs happy and healthy!
