O Riordan Cup
Every year, our school hosts a much-anticipated Gaelic football tournament that brings together mixed-class teams for some friendly competition and fun. Students play a number of round-robin games. After these matches, the top teams face off in thrilling play-offs, leading to the semi-finals and ultimately the grand final on Sports Day. This tournament is a long-standing tradition in our school, and it’s one that the children look forward to with great excitement each year, fostering team spirit, sportsmanship, and a love of Gaelic football across all age groups. .

Food Dudes
This year, completing the Food Dudes programme at school was a huge success! The children really got involved and enjoyed trying new healthy foods, especially with the fun challenges and rewards that were part of the programme. It was amazing to see how their attitudes toward fruits and vegetables shifted, with many of them excitedly sharing their favorites and encouraging each other to keep up with the daily tasks. The enthusiasm was contagious, and it was clear that the programme made a lasting impact on their eating habits.

Sporting Achievements
Some of the 4th class children have been busy winning medals and trophies for their clubs. We are extremely proud of these children and their sporting achievments.

World Championships
The two girls performed brilliantly in the World Championships for Irish dancing, held in Dublin. Dancing as part of a group, they showcased their talent across a number of songs and proudly placed third in the under 14 competition. We are incredibly proud of their achievement here at the school, well done girls!

We had a lovely time celebrating Grandparents Day at school. The children were excited to welcome their grandparents and share special moments with them. There were songs stories and big smiles all around. It was a heartwarming day filled with love and appreciation.

As part of World Book Day, the children dressed up as characters from their favourite books. There was a fantastic variety of creative and colourful costumes on display. The best costumes were rewarded with a special treat - an Easter egg!
Mr. O’ Naughton tried to hide an Easter egg, but the children were quick to spot it and weren’t afraid to call him house! There was lots of laughter as they caught him in the act.

Buddy Reading
The fifth and sixth class students spend some time with the children in Mrs. Henry‘s class as part of body reading sessions. They helped the younger children with their reading and also read stories to them. Both classes really enjoyed the experience and the older students were especially helpful and patient. The younger children loved having the older student support them and it’s made reading time even more special. These sessions were a great success!

Completing Seachtain na Gaeilge to celebrate Irish in schools this year was a fantastic experience! The students had so much fun embracing Irish culture, from speaking Gaelige all day, to dressing in green and participating in traditional Irish activities. Throughout the week the children took part in many activities. These included, participating in a céile, learning and performing amhràns and dáns, playing the tin whistle, fun Gaeilge activities in the classroom and a Trá na gcCéist to finish the week. The atmosphere was filled with excitement and pride as everyone came together to celebrate Ireland's rich heritage.

During Science Week in Ireland, our school had a fantastic visit from a representative of Science Foundation Ireland. She conducted a series of fun and engaging experiments with the students, sparking their curiosity and excitement about science. The children were fascinated and thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on activities, making it a memorable and inspiring experience for everyone involved

Annaghdown Ladies Football Team
This year, the Annaghdown Ladies Football team reached the All-Ireland Intermediate Final – a fantastic achievement! The team captain, a past pupil of our school, along with several other former students on the panel, made us all very proud. They visited the school with their County and Connacht trophies, which was a very special moment for the children. Our principal, Ms. Hussey, a proud supporter of the team, joined in the celebrations. We are delighted for the girls and their incredible success!.
